The Original SSR - wk of June 16

Maybe I'm being a lil overly sentimental today, because Tim Russert died so poetically last week...just days before Father's Day, which had taken on such profound meaning in the hearts of many after hearing about or reading his novel Big Russ & Me. Seeing Tim's son Luke this morning on the Today Show had me teary-eyed because it is so rare to see such naked love and mutual respect between men as he had with his father and grandfather. What a blessing to know, down to your bones, that you are the light of your daddy's eye!

So, even though the focus of our June programming is celebrating black music, we still like to recognize love where we see it. And since our first love on the show is funky, soulful, powerful music and lyrics, that's definitely what we're giving you today. Listen and groove...and call someone today to tell them you love them, would ya? Make sure they know.

Thank you so much for this. Rare Essence? Classic. Heartbreak Hotel? To me this was a preview to Billie Jean. Mos Def was right on time[Black Jack Johnson!!] But the one that got me...MARVIN GAYE...God Bless him. I miss him so much. I was at work tying away when the song came on. I remember seeing this on TV when he did it. Hearing this brought tears to me eyes. I had to go to the bathroom and send a prayer to the most high for Marvin's creative, pure and troubled spirit. When I got back to my desk I put the Sanctuary in my favorites. I look forward to vibing with you in the future. Take this as a cyber hand clap and thank you thank you thank you. Keep banging.....

Hey Eric. Didn't mean to bring you to tears, but I am glad that the mix moved you. And yes, Marvin was an amazing talent who had to overcome some huge demons in order to find his voice.

Thanks for joining The Congregation and we look forward to more feedback.
